Chap. 312.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of
Franklin county to appoint special policemen for said county; to prescribe
their compensation, and terms of office, and to repeal all acts and parts of
acts inconsistent with this act, insofar as they apply to the county of
Franklin. [H B 380]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Franklin county be, and it is hereby, author-
ized and empowered to appoint special policemen for so much of the
said county as is not embraced within an incorporated town located in
the county, who shall be suitable and discreet persons, and who shall
serve for such length of time as the board of supervisors shall deter-
mine, but subject to removal at the pleasure of the board. Before any
person shall be appointed a policeman hereunder, he shall be a quali-
fied voter and actual resident of the said county, and shall make appli-
tion for such appointment to the board of supervisors, which applica-
tion shall state the applicant’s full name, age, place of residence, occu-
pation, and by whom regularly employed. Such person or persons so
appointed shall be conservators of the peace in said county. No police-
man appointed hereunder shall be demed to be an employee of the
State or county within the meaning of the Virginia workmen’s com-
pensation act.
2. All policemen appointed under section forty-seven hundred and
ninety-seven of the Code of Virginia, and acts amendatory thereof.
shall remain in office until the expiration of the terms for which ap-
pointed, unless sooner removed by the board of supervisors.
3. Before entering upon the duties of their office the person or
persons appointed under the provisions of this act shall give bond in
the penalty of one hundred doilars, with approved security before the
county clerk with condition to faitht ully discharge their official duties.
4. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby
repealed, insofar as the same apply to the county of Franklin.
