Chap. 307..—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Roanoke county
to enact an ordinance requiring building permits for the construction, repair
or improvement of certain buildings located in subdivisions of land, and to
prescribe penalties. [H B 368]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Roanoke county be, and they are hereby
authorized, in their discretion, to require, upon terms and conditions
as may be prescribed in an ordinance to be enacted by the said board
in accordance with law, every person, firm or corporation, before con-
structing, repairing or improving any building located or to be located
in any subdivision of lands in Roanoke county, the cost of which shall
amount to two hundred dollars or more, to first obtain a permit for
such construction, repair or improvement from the commissioner of
the revenue of the said county, which permit shall be in writing, signed
by said commissioner, setting forth the location of the building, the
type and character of the work to be done, together with an estimate
of the probable cost of the same. The commissioner of the revenue
shall keep a record of all such permits so issued, and no charge shall
be made by him for issuing the same.
2. The said board of supervisors are authorized to prescribe such
fines and other punishment for the violation of such ordinance as may
be set forth therein, provided that such fines shall not exceed twenty-
five dollars.
3. An emergency existing this act shall be in force from its passage.
