Chap. 266.—An ACT to authorize the commission of fisheries to employ a civil
engineer; to prescribe his duties, and fix his compensation. [Hi B 281]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the com-
mission of fisheries be, and it is hereby, authorized and empowered to
appoint a competent civil engineer, who shall serve as assistant to,
and under the supervision and direction of the commissioner of
fisheries.
Such civil engineer shall give his entire time to the discharge of
his duties, and shall receive as compensation for his services, the
sum of three thousand dollars per annum. It shall be the duty of such
engineer to make, under the supervision of the commissioner of fisheries,
a resurvey of the Baylor survey in the Chesapeake bay and its tributaries
within the State of Virginia, and to make a survey of all oyster plant-
ing grounds heretofore leased or assigned by the State of Virginia,
together with such other surveys and resurveys of natural oyster rocks
and shoals as may be deemed necessary and proper by the commissioner
of fisheries; provided, further, that the services of the said civil engi-
neer can be dispensed with at any time by the commissioner of fisheries.
