Chap. 541.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of a commission on fire,
liability, casualty and workmen’s compensation insurance rates in Virginia,
and to prescribe the powers and duties of said commission. {H B 136]
Approved March 25, 1926.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That there
shall be appointed a commission on fire insurance rates in Virginia
which commission shall have the powers and duties hereinafter pre-
scribed.
2. The said commission shall consist of five members to be ap-
pointed by the governor from among the qualified voters of the State.
The members of the commission shall name one of its number chair-
man and another secretary.
3. The commission aforesaid shall investigate the matter of fire
and liability, casualty and workmen’s compensation insurance rates
in Virginia and in other States, and shall ascertain if any unfair or
unjust discrimination is made by insurance companies against prop-
erty-owners and employers in Virginia. It shall make its report to
the general assembly at its session of nineteen hundred and twenty-
eight, and if any unfair or unjust discrimination is found to exist, it
shall recommend appropriate legislation.
4. The commission may employ a statistician or statisticians, and
it is hereby made the duty of the commissioner of insurance of Vir-
ginia to render the commission all aid and assistance in his power in
connection with its investigation.
5. The members of the commission shall receive no compensation
for serving thereon, but shall be entitled to be reimbursed for their
actual traveling and hotel expenses severally incurred in attending
meetings of the commission. All disbursements shall be paid on
warrants of the auditor of public accounts issued on certificates signed
by the chairman and countersigned by the secretary of the commis-
sion. For the purpose of enabling the commission to carry out the
provisions of this act there is hereby appropriated to the commission,
out of any funds in the State treasury not otherwise appropriated,
the sum of two thousand dollars.
