Chap. 522.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1021 of title 12, chapter 46,
of the Code of Virginia, as amended by an act approved March 16, 1920,
relating to the insane, epileptic, feeble-minded and inebriate. [H B 135]

1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
one thousand and twenty-one of title twelve, chapter forty-six of the
Code of Virginia, as amended by an act approved March sixteenth,
nineteen hundred and twenty, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
Section 1021. Fees and expenses.—The two physicians shall re-
ceive a fee of five dollars each for their services. The justice of the
peace shall receive a fee of two dollars for his services. The officer
making the arrest and summoning the commission and witnesses shall
receive the same fees as are allowed for like services in a felony case.
The witnesses regularly summoned before such commission shall re-
ceive such compensation for their attendance and mileage as is allowed
witnesses summoned to testify before grand juries. The justice and
each physician shall receive like mileage. All expenses incurred in
committing any person to any State hospital, or colony, including the
fees, attendance and mileage aforesaid, shall be paid by the county or
city of which such person was a legal resident at the time of such com-
mitment, provided, that if such person’s residence is not established
in the State of Virginia, costs shall be paid by the State.
