Chap. 494.—An ACT to authorize co-operation on the part of the proper authori-
ties of the State of Virginia, in respect to construction of boulevards or high-
ways in the State of Virginia or widening or improving existing highways
of the United States government. [S B 252]

Whereas, it is contemplated that the congress of the United States
may provide for the establishment of a boulevard from the city of
Washington to Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, in
Fairfax county, and may also provide for the establishment of other
boulevards and highways extending into the State of Virginia; or
widening or improving existing highways;
Whereas, it is desired to make provision by the State of Virginia to
co-operate with the national government in any such undertaking,
now, therefore
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, as follows:
The United States government, or any duly authorized representa-
tives of said government or any commission now or hereafter estab-
lished by the congress of the United States for any such purpose is
given the right of acquisition of title fee simple or such other estates
or interests therein as may be desired by purchase or condemnation
of lands in the State of Virginia for any of the purposes aforesaid, the
proceedings therein, when condemnation is resorted to, to conform to
the provisions of law already in force in this State in reference to
federal condemnation proceedings.
2. That concurrent jurisdiction over any such lands or interests
or estates therein acquired by condemnation or otherwise, is hereby
ceded to the government of the United States, in accordance with the
provisions of the sections of the Code of Virginia already in force,
ceding to the United States government concurrent jurisdiction over
certain lands within the State of Virginia.
3. That the council of any city or town, and the board of super-
visors of any county in this State, concerned in such proposed boule-
vards or highways, are hereby authorized jointly or severally to con-
tribute in whole or in part to the financing of such acquisition of titles
and are hereby given the power, jointly or severally, to contract with
the United States government or its authorized representatives, or
commission, now or hereafter so authorized or established, in refer-
ence to any such bouelvards or highways, as to any matter included
in the intendment of this act.
4. Should any part of this act be held unconstitutional it shall
nevertheless continue in full force and effect as to the provisions there-
of which are constitutional.
