Chap. 477.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of an assistant to the
Commonwealth’s attorney for the city of Lynchburg. [S B 316]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
corporation court of the city of Lynchburg, or the judge thereof in
vacation, at the request and upon the recommendation of the Com-
monwealth’s attorney for the said city, may appoint an assistant to
the said Commonwealth’s attorney to be known as the assistant
Commonwealth’s attorney for the city of Lynchburg, and in the ab-
sence of the Commonwealth’s attorney for the said city, such assistant
shall have all the powers and shall perform all the duties of the Com-
monwealth’s attorney during the latter’s continuance in office, or until
such assistant shall resign or be removed from office. The order of
appointment shall be entered on the minute book of such court,
whether made in term time or in vacation. Such assistant, before
entering upon the duties of his office, shall take and subscribe an oath
similar to that taken by the Commonwealth’s attorney, which oath
shall be filed with the clerk of the said court, and such clerk shall
properly label and file such oath in his office for preservation. Such
assistant Commonwealth’s attorney may be removed from office by
the said court, at the request and upon the recommendation of the
Commonwealth's attorney for said city. Such assistant Common-
wealth’s attorney shall serve without compensation from the Com-
monwealth; but the council of the said city of Lynchburg may provide
a salary to be paid such assistant Commonwealth’s attorney.
