1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eight hundred and forty-eight of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 848. How degrees are conferred.—The governor and
board of visitors and faculty of the institute may confer a degree upon
any cadet, and upon any graduate found qualified to receive it, after
examination upon such of the branches of the arts and sciences and of
literature taught at the institute as the board may deem requisite.
