Chap. 285.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of a commission on selective
immigration, and to prescribe the powers and duties of the commission.

1. Beit enacted byjthe general'assembly of Virginia, That there
shall be appointed a commission on selective immigration, which
commission shall have the powers and duties hereinafter prescribed.
2. The commission shall consist of three or more members to be
appointed by the governor to serve at his pleasure, such members
shall receive no compensation for their services. They shall name
one of their number chairman and another secretary.
3. The commission aforesaid shall investigate and study the
operation of existing immigration laws, especially as to their effect
on agriculture and industry in the State of Virginia, and, in the light
of its study and investigation, and in conjunction with similar ccm-
missions from other States, shall present its views to the national
congress.
4. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
