Chap. 18.—An ACT authorizing C. C. Vaughan, Jr., to convey certain real estate
in Franklin, Southampton county, Virginia, to the American Legion, er
ampton Post No. 73. [S B 16]

Whereas, Marietta Parker did, by deed bearing date on the
twenty-seventh day of November, eighteen hundred and ninety-
seven, convey to C. C. Vaughan, Jr., then Captain of Company I,
Fourth Regiment Virginia Volunteers, a lot of land in Franklin, South-
ampton county, Virginia, upon which to erect an armory for the use
of the said Company I, Fourth Regiment Virginia Volunteers, de-
scribed as follows: ‘‘Situated on Fourth avenue with a frontage of
fifty feet thereon, thence at right angles along the line of the W. B.
Holland lot eighty-five feet to a lot purchased ‘by William Felton,
thence along the line of William Felton’s lot fifty feet to Walter Nor-
fleet’s line, thence along Walter. Norfleet’s line eighty-five feet to
point of beginning, said lot being fifty by eight-five feet,” and
Whereas, the said Company I, Fourth Regiment Virginia Volun-
teers, is no longer in existence, and the land cannot be used for the
purpose for which it was purchased, and
Whereas, the Southampton Post American Legion desires to ac-
quire the real estate upon which to erect a building to be used as
Post headquarters, and
Whereas, C. C. Vaughan, Jr., desires to convey the said real estate
to the American Legion, Southampton Post, Number Seventy-three;
now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That C. C.
Vaughan, Jr., be and he is hereby, authorized and empowered to con-
vey in fee simple without consideration, by proper deed, the above
described real estate to American Legion, Southampton Post, Number
Seventy-three.
An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
