Chap. 175.—An ACT to assent to and accept the certain grants of money as
made by the Congress of the United States, February 24, 1925, authorizing
appropriations for the use of the agricultural experiment stations of the
several states and territories of the United States. [S B 197}

Whereas, congress by an act entitled an act to authorize the more
complete endowment of agricultural experiment stations and for other
purposes, known as the Purnell act, approved February twenty-fourth,
nineteen hundred and twenty-five, did authorize to be appropriated
in addition to the amounts now received by such agricultural experi-
ment stations to the several States and territories for the more com-
plete endowment and maintenance of agricultural experiment sta-
tions now extablished or which may hereafter be established, in ac-
cordance with an act of Congress, approved March second, eighteen
hundred and eighty-seven, certain sums of money the same to be
paid in equal quarterly payments on the first day of January, April,
July and October of each year by the secretary of the treasury, upon
the warrant of the secretary of agriculture out of the treasury of the
United States to the treasurer or some other officer duly appointed
by the governing boards of such agricultural experiment stations to
receive the same upon the conditions and for the purposes in said act
set out; and
Whereas, in said act of congress, among other things it is provided
that the same grants of money are made subject to the legislative
assent of the several States and territories for the purposes above men-
tioned; and
Whereas, it is further provided in the said act that payment of
such installments of the appropriation herein authorized to be made
as shall become due to any State or territory before the adjournment
of the regular session of the legislature meeting next after the passage
of this said act shall be made upon the assent of the governor thereof,
which assent was duly given by the governor of Virginia on March
ninth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
State of Virginia does hereby assent to the purposes of the said grants
and appropriations and the the board of control of the Virginia agri-
cultural experiment station is authorized and empowered to receive
the grants and appropriations for the benefit of the said experiment
station and to use them in accordance with the terms and conditions
expressed in the act of Congress aforesaid.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its pas-
sage.
