Chap. 159.—An ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding thereto a new
section to be numbered section 2850-a, in relation to notaries public for the
State at large. [S B 184]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto a new section to be
numbered section twenty-eight hundred and fifty-a, which new sec-
tion shall read as follows:
Section 2850a. Notaries public for the State at large.—The gov-
ernor may appoint in and for the State of Virginia at large as many
notaries public as to him may seem proper, who shall hold office for
the term of four years. Any notary public so appointed may exercise
the same powers and functions and shall be subject to the same re-
strictions and regulations as are prescribed by general law for notaries
public for counties and cities, except that such notary public at large
shall be empowered to act as notary public in any county or city in
the Commonwealth. The fee for issuing a commission to such notary
shall be twenty-five dollars, which shall include the tax on the seal
of the State.
Every application for appointment as such notary shall state in
what circuit or corporation court the applicant wishes to qualify, and
any such notary so appointed shall qualify in the circuit or corporation
court designated in application, and the commission shall be sent by
the secretary of the Commonwealth to the clerk of such court to be
delivered to the applicant upon compliance with the provisions of
section twenty-eight hundred and fifty of the Code of Virginia.
