B 300]
Approved March 21, 1924.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
State highway commission be, and it is hereby, authorized and em-
powered to expend out of funds allocated to any construction district,
or out of funds segregated for construction before allocation, for the
construction of highways within the State highway system, such sum
or sums of money as may be necessary for the purpose of purchasing
ferries, equipment and other necessary things for the operation of
ferries to connect the State highways.

highway commission shall establish and maintain a reasonable system
of ferriage charges for the use thereof by the public. The rates of
ferriage shall be fixed by the commission, and shall be collected and
paid into the State treasury to the credit of the State highway con-

authority to lease said ferry for an adequate consideration, reserving the
right to fix the rates, et cetera, and to terminate the lease at any time
upon giving six months’ notice thereof to the lessee, and if so leased,
the proceeds received by the commission under the terms thereof shall
be paid into the State treasury to the State highway construction fund
as hereinbefore provided.
