Chap. 42.—An ACT to repeal section five, chapter sixty-seven, acts of the gen-
eral: assembly, 1916, approved February 26, 1916, relating to that part of B and
magisterial district, Prince George county, known as Hopewell. [H B 100)
Approved February 26, 1924.
Whereas, by chapter sixty-six, acts of the general assembly, nineteen
hundred and sixteen, approved February twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred
and sixteen, there was created a body politic to consist of five members to
be appointed by the governor, and to be known as the administrative
board of that unincorporated community, as set out in said act, and
known as Hopewell, said board to administer the governmental affairs
of said community until such time as the city of Hopewell was incor-
porated; and,
Whereas, by chapter sixty-seven, acts of the general assembly,
nineteen hundred and sixteen, approved February twenty-sixth, nine-
teen hundred and sixteen, there was appropriated from the State treas-
ury the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, to be used and expended by
the said administrative board for the proper administration of the gov-
ernmental affairs of said community, to be paid upon warrants drawn
on the auditor of public accounts of Virginia from time to time, as
necessary, by the said board; and,
_ Whereas, by section five, chapter sixty-seven, acts of the general as-
sembly, nineteen hundred and sixteen, approved February twenty-sixth,
nineteen hundred and sixteen, it was provided that the city of Hopewell,
upon it becoming a city, should repay into the State treasury the said
sum of twenty-five thousand dollars so appropriated; and, that said sum
was expended in that unincorporated community, principally for the
purpose of preserving law and order for the State, before the city of
Hopewell was in existence, and by reason of the provisions of section five
it is now apparently an incumbrance against the city of Hopewell, and
tends to affect the credit of said city; now, therefore, *
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
five, chapter sixty-seven, acts of the general assembly, nineteen hundred
and sixteen, approved February twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred and
sixteen, be, and the same hereby is, repealed, and the city of Hopewell
be, and it hereby is, relieved from paying into the treasury of Virginia
the said sum of twenty-five thousand dollars.
