Whereas, W. E. Lucas, a deputy sheriff of Rockingham county, sus-
tained injuries in discharge of his official duties, in conveying to jail a
prisoner charged with violation of the prohibition laws, on account of
which injuries he incurred hospital and medical expenses, aggregating
the sum of three hundred and ninety-six dollars; and,
Whereas, the said Lucas is dependent upon his ability to work for a
living and that the injuries sustained greatly interfere with his ability
to work; now, therefore,
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the board
of supervisors of Rockingham: county may, in their judgment, appro-
priate from the funds of the county the sum of three hundred and ninety-
six dollars to pay the costs sustained by said W. E. Lucas for hospital
and medical expenses.
2. Anemergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
