Chap. 3.—An ACT to enable the county of Prince Edward, State of Vir-
ginia, to release and forever quit claim to a strip of land fronting
fifteen feet on Main street of the town of Farmville, formerly a portion
of the courthouse square. [S B 6]
Approved March 15, 1928.
Whereas, on the twenty-ninth day of February, eighteen
hundred and seventy-two, the town of Farmville in Prince
Edward county, Virginia, duly conveyed unto the county of
Prince Edward a certain lot of land located in said town on
which was erected the courthouse, jail and clerk’s office of the
county, with a proviso, however, that if from any cause what-
ever the said buildings should cease to be used for the purposes
of holding the courts for the county, etc., then the fee simple
in said lot of land with the buildings thereon should revert to
the town of Farmville, etc., and;
Whereas, on the thirtieth day of June, eighteen hundred and
eighty-five, the board of supervisors of the county of Prince
Edward, by order duly entered of record in its minutes, did
direct and authorize the chairman of the board of supervisors
to release and quit claim unto the town of Farmville a strip of
land fifteen feet wide fronting on Main street on the south side
of the courthouse lot adjoining property already owned by the
town and running back on perpendicular lines to Main street
and between parallel lines eighty feet, upon which land the town
erected a town hall to be used for public purposes with a
proviso, however, that whenever said strip of land ceased to be
used for public purposes the same should revert to the county
of Prince Edward under the same terms and conditions as the
original conveyance to the town of Farmville, and;
Whereas, the town of Farmville contemplates selling the said
town hall and the land upon which it is directed and desires to
convey said property in fee simple absolute, free from any con-
- ditions whatsoever, and;
Whereas, the said strip of land fifteen feet by eighty feet is
not at all necessary for the use or conveniences of the court-
house lot proper; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of the county of Prince Edward be,
and is hereby, authorized and empowered to convey unto the
town of Farmville by grant with special warranty any interest
whatsoever it may have in the said strip of land fifteen feet by
eighty feet, and upon the execution and delivery of said release
and quit-claim deed the said town of Farmville shall hold the
same in fee simple absolute, free from the claims of anyone
whatsoever, and especially of the county of Prince Edward.
