CHAP. 149.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 89 of the Code of
Virginia. [TH B 98]
Approved March 29, 1923.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section eighty-nine of the Code of Virginia be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 89. Pay of board.—Each member of the electoral
board shall receive from the county or city, respectively, for
each day of actual service the sum of two dollars, and the same
mileage as is now paid jurors; provided. that no member of such
board shall receive more than ten dollars in any one year. ex-
clusive of mileage, unless one or more special elections be held
in such year, in which event the members of the electoral board
shall be paid additional amounts at the same per diem, and
mileage; but the secretary of such board shall in addition to the
per diem herein provided for be allowed his expenses not to ex-
ceed twenty-five dollars in any one year, and the council of any
city containing more than one hundred and seventy thousand
inhabitants may provide additional compensation for members
of the electoral board, and also make an additional allowance
for the expenses of the secretary. The counties and cities shal]
furnish the necessary postage and stationery, including a bound
book for the minutes of its proceedings, for the use of the board.
Each member of the electoral board, before he shall be entitled
to receive any amount under this section, shall make out a state-
ment under oath, of his claim, and the secretary shall, in addi-
tion, make out under his oath, a statement of postage and
stationery used by the board, and the statements when so made
out and found correct shall be paid by the board of supervisors
of the county or the council of the city for which such board was
appointed.
