Chap. 122.—An ACT authorizing the mayor and council of the town of
Purcellville, in Loudoun county, Virginia, to borrow money not ex-
ceeding $5,000.00, and to issue bonds therefor, for the purpose of pur-
chasing fire-fighting equipment; and authorizing the said council to
make annual appropriations out of the revenue and to levy a tax on
the property subject to local taxation in the said town to pay the in-
terest on, and provide a sinking fund for, the payment of the principal
of said bonds at maturity. [H B 113]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
_ the mayor and council of the town of Purcellville in Loudoun
county, Virginia, are hereby authorized and empowered to
borrow not exceeding the sum of five thousand dollars, and to
_ Issue bonds therefor, for the purpose of purchasing fire-fighting
equipment for the said town.
2. The bonds may be either counon or registered, in the
discretion of the said mayor and council; they shall be in
_ denominations of one thousand dollars each, payable, one, two,
three, four, and five years after date, respectively. The said
_ bonds shall be signed by the mayor of the said town and counter-
signed by the clerk, and shall be negotiated or sold in such
Manner as may be prescribed by the mayor and council of the
said town; provided, that the said bonds shall not be negotiated
or sold for less than their par value. The council shall have
_ power to make annual appropriations out of the revenue of the
‘town to pay the interest on the said bonds and to provide a
Sinking fund for the redemption thereof at maturity, and if
_hecessary, may levy a special tax annually for five years not in
excess of forty cents on every one hundred dollars worth of

property, subject to local taxation within the limits of the said
town for the said purposes, provided, however, that the rate of
taxation prescribed by general law shall not be exceeded on any
- Class of property.
An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
