Chap. 114.—An ACT authorizing the mayor and council of the town of
Kenbridge to borrow money for the purpose of advancing the same
for the improvement of a section of the State highway system within
the county of Lunenburg, Virginia, under the provisions of an act of
the general assembly of Virginia, approved March 15, 1920, entitled
“An act to anticipate by counties or otherwise the eonstruction of the
State highway system.” [H B 133]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the council of the town of Kenbridge is hereby authorized and
empowered to borrow a sum of money, not exceeding thirty
thousand dollars, and to issue its bonds therefor, said money
to be used to anticipate the improvement of a part of the State
highway system in Lunenburg county, Virginia, under the pro-
visions of an act of the general assembly of Virginia, entitled
“An act to anticipate by counties or otherwise the construction
of the State highway system,” approved on the fifteenth day
of March, nineteen hundred and twenty. The sum of money
to be borrowed and the advisability of borrowing the same shall
be determined by at least a two-thirds vote of the council of
the said town and the ordinance shall also be approved by its
mayor. Said bonds shall be signed by the mayor and clerk
of the said town and shall bear interest at a rate not exceed-
ing six per centum per annum, and shall become due and
payable within any period not exceeding thirty-three years, but
may be made redeemable at the pleasure of the said council.
The council shall have power to make annual appropriations
out of the revenue of the town to pay the interest on said bonds
and to provide a sinking fund for their redemption when due
or when redeemed before maturity as aforesaid, and if neces-
sary, may levy a special tax as provided by chapter two hun-
dred and seventy-nine of the acts of the general assembly of
Virginia of nineteen hundred and twenty-two. Said bonds shall
be free from all State and local taxation.
2. The said town is hereby expressly authorized to make
application and to come under the provisions of the said act
of the general assembly of Virginia, approved on the fifteenth
day of March, nineteen hundred and twenty, entitled “An act
to anticipate by counties or otherwise the construction of the
State highway system.”
3. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from
its passage. |
