Chap. 396.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 5 of an act of the general
assembly of Virginia entitled an act to provide a new charter for the
town of Pearisburg, Virginia, and to repeal all acts in conflict, approved

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion five of an act of the general assembly of Virginia, entitled an
act to provide a new charter for the town of Pearisburg, Virginia,
and to repeal all acts in conflict, approved March twenty-first, nine-
teen hundred and fourteen, be amended and re-enacted so as to read
as follows. ,
Sec. 5. The council of said town shall have power to lay and
levy a tax not exceeding one dollar on the one hundred dollars value
of all property, real and tangible personal, in the said town, and a poll
tax not exceeding fifty cents on each resident thereof, over the age of
twenty-one years, to be expended as the council may direct, and the
said town shall have like powers of distress and other process for the
collection of its said taxes as are given for the collection of States
taxes.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
