Chap. 393.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act authorizing
the boards of supervisors of the respective counties of the Commonwealth to
pay rewards out of the county levies for the capture of illicit stills and
delivery of the same to the sheriff of the county, and for the conviction
of the person, or persons, guilty of operating the same, in the manufacture
of ardent spirits, approved March 16, 1918. [S B 336]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
boards of supervisors of the respective counties of the Commonwealth
be, and the same are hereby, authorizéd to pay rewards out of the
county levies to any person, including officers, for the capture of any
illicit still and apparatus used in connection therewith in operation
at the time of such capture, in such county, or which has recently
theretofore been operated in said county, in the manufacture of ardent
spirits, and delivery of the same to the sheriff of the county, at the
county seat, and for the conviction of the person, or persons, guilty of
unlawfully operating the same; such reward not to exceed the sum
of fifty dollars in connection with any one still, one-third of which
reward shall be payable as soon as the still and apparatus therewith
are captured and delivered to the sheriff as aforesaid and proof thereof
duly made to the board of supervisors of such county, and the remain-
ing two-third thereof shall be payable upon the conviction of the per-
son, or persons, guilty of operating the same.
"2. Provided, however, the board of supervisors of Carroll county
may offer a reward in the sum of fifty dollars for the capture of any
illicit still and apparatus used in connection therewith in operation at
the time of such capture, in said county, or which has recently there-
tofore been operated in said county in the manufacture of ardent
spirits, and delivered to the sheriff of the county, at the county seat:
one-third of which reward shall be payable when the said illicit still
and apparatus is captured, the remaining two-thirds shall be paid
upon the conviction of the person, or persons, guilty of so operating
said illicit still and apparatus. Said board of supervisors may also
offer a reward for the capture of ardent spirits unlawfully handled
for sale or unlawfully transported in a sum not less than five dollars
for the first five gallons, and one dollar for each gallon captured’ in
excess thereof.
