Chap. 369.—An ACT to permit field trials with hunting dogs. [H B 132]
Approved March 20, 1920.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
commissioner of game and inland fisheries is authorized to grant
permits to bona fide field trial clubs and associations to hold field
trials with bird dogs, with fox hounds and with beagles in this State
under such rules and regulations as may be adopted by the commis-
sioner safeguarding the interest of the wild game of the State.
2. - When no wild game is shot in said trials, members of said
clubs and associations and their guests shall be exempted from paying
a hunter’s license tax.
3. If birds or animals are to be shot over or in front of dogs
engaged in such field trials, the person actually doing the shooting
must first procure a hunter’s license permitting him to do so.
4. Dogs brought into the State to participate in such field trials
and which are removed from the State within or not exceeding one
week shall be exempted from the State dog license tax. :
5. It shall be unlawful to hold field trials with dogs in this State
during the closed hunting seasons unless permission to do so is granted
by the commissioner of the department of game and inland fisheries.
6. Any person or club or association violating any of the pro-
visions of this chapter shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than fifty nor more
than two hundred and fifty dollars.
