1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sectio
thirty-four hundred and thirty-four of the Code of Virginia b
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows: .
Sec. 3434. Salary of secretary of Commonwealth and his clerks
contingent expenses.—The secretary of the Commonwealth the sur
of four thousand dollars, and he shall receive no other compensatio
for his services; all fees of office and commission accruing shall t
paid into the treasury. He-shall have power to appoint such cleric
force as he may deem necessary to the efficiency of his department an
to apportion such salaries among his several clerks as he may think
proper, not in conflict with law; but the aggregate amounts paid such
clerks shall not exceed the sum provided by law; and he shall have
power to expend for the contingent expenses of his office such sum
as may be provided by law.
2. This act shall be in force on and after February first, nineteen
hundred and twenty-two.
