Chap. 241.—An ACT to change the name of Alexandria county to Arlington
county. (H B 272]
Approved March 16, 1920.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
name of Alexandria county be, and the same is hereby, changed to
Arlington county, and that the territory row composing that sub-
division of the Commonwealth of Virginia known and designated as
Alexandria county shall be hereafter known and designated as Arling-
ton county, and by that name shall have and exercise all the rights,
powers and privileges conferred, and shall be subject to all the duties,
liabilities and restrictions now imposed by law for the government
of counties of this Commonwealth, or which may hereafter be enacted
for the government of such counties. Such change of name shall not
affect any offense or act committed or done, or any penalty or for-
feiture incurred, or any right of any nature established, accrued, or
accruing before the day of the taking effect of this act, or any prosecu-
tion, suit, or proceeding pending on that day; and wherever the name
“Alexandria county” appears or may hereafter appear in the Constitu-
tion, statutes, ordinances, resolutions, decrees, judgments or elsewhere,
or in any other manner, the same shall be construed to mean “Arling-
ton county,” the sole purpose of this act being to change the name of
said county.
