Chap. 233.—An ACT providing for the appointment of a commission on the
development of Hampton Roads. [H B 294]
Approved March 16, 1920.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That there
shall be appointed a commission on the development of Hampton
Roads, which commission shall be charged with the duty of making
a careful study of the whole port and terminal problem of the said
Hampton Roads, and to report to the general assembly at its next
regular session on the best ways and means for the State to assist
in the development of this wonderful economic and natural asset.
2. The commission aforesaid shall consist of nine members to
be appointed as follows: Three by the president of the senate from
among the membership of the senate; three by the speaker of the
house of delegates from among the membership of the house of dele-
gates; and three by the governor of Virginia from among the quali-
fied voters of the State. The members of the commission shall name
one of its number chairman and another secretary.
3. The necessary expenses of the commission shall be paid by
the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News and Hampton in
such proportion as the governing bodies of the said cities may agree
upon, but the expenses aforesaid shall not exceed, in the aggregate,
the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars.
