Chap. 89.—An ACT to appropriate the sum of $10,000 to the Virginia
war history commission, and _ to authorize the boards of supervisors
of the several counties and the governing bodies of the several cities
to appropriate sums to the local branches of the said comms B71]

Whereas, the governor of Virginia has appointed a war his-
tory commission composed of the following citizens of Virginia,
to-wit: Arthur Kyle Davis, chairman; Charles R. Keiley, Henry
R. McIlwaine, Thos. Nelson Page, Collins Denny, Harry St.
George Tucker, Jo Lane Stern, Dennis J. O’Connell, H. J. Ecken-
rode, Douglas Freeman, Edward N. Calisch, John Preston Mc-
Connell, James §. Wilson, Mrs. William G. Stanard, Lyon G.
Tyler and Robert R. Prentis; and,
Whereas, the said Virginia war history commission was ap-
pointed for the purpose of writing and publishing a complete
history of Virginia’s part in the world war; and,
Whereas, an appropriation is necessary to enable the said
commission to discharge its present duties; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the sum of ten thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby ap-
propriated, out of any moneys in the treasury not otherwise
appropriated, to the said Virginia war history commission, for
the purpose of enabling it to discharge the duties imposed upon
it during the residue of the current appropriation year. The
sum hereby appropriated shall be paid by the treasurer of Vir-
ginia upon warrants of the auditor of public accounts issued
upon certificates signed by the chairman of the Virginia war
history commission and countersigned by the secretary of said
commission. :
2. The boards of supervisors of the several counties, and
the councils or other governing bodies of the several cities of
this Commonwealth, are hereby authorized, in their discretion,
to appropriate such sums to the respective local branches of the
Virginia war history commission, payable out of the respective
county and city treasuries, as to them may seem proper.
By reason of the necessity of properly carrying forward
the work of the Virginia war history commission, an emergency
is declared to exist and this act shall be in force from its passage.
