Chap. 49.—An ACT to validate an ordinance of the city of Norfolk and
to authorize the issuance of $100,000 school ponds pursuant thereto.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the ordinance adopted by the council of the city of Norfolk on
July twenty-fourth, nineteen hundred and nineteen, authorizing
the issuance of one hundred thousand dollars school bonds to re-
tire a like amount of notes dated July seventeenth, nineteen hun-
dred and nineteen, being two notes numbered seven hundred and
eighty-four and seven hundred and eighty-five, respectively, for
the sum of fifty thousand dollars each, which notes were issued
to reimburse the general funds of said city for the payment out
of said funds of four notes numbered from seven hundred and
forty. to seven hundred and forty-three, inclusive, for the sum
of twenty-five thousand dollars each, which notes were validated
by chapter three hundred and forty-three of the acts of nine-
teen hundred and eighteen, approved March sixteenth, nineteen
hundred and eighteen, be, and the same is hereby, in all respects
validated and confirmed.
2. The city of Norfolk is hereby authorized to issue the one
hundred thousand dollars school bonds authorized by said ordi-
nance, to-wit: one hundred bonds , numbered from one to one
hundred, inclusive, of the denomination of one thousand dollars
each, dated August one, nineteen hundred and nineteen, and pay-
able August one, nineteen hundred and. forty-nine, with interest
at the rate of five per centum per annum, payable semi-annually.
3. The council of the city of Norfolk is hereby authorized
to amend said ordinance in any respect, by further ordinance
or ordinances, and to change the numbers, denominations, date,
maturity or interest rate of said bonds or to make any other
change in respect thereto which shall be consistent with the pro-
visions of the city charter affecting the authorization and issu-
ance of bonds.
4. The city of Norfolk being about to issue and sell said
bonds in connection with the sale of other bonds of said city, and
the said notes of July seventeenth, nineteen hundred and nine-
teen, being about to mature, an emergency is declared to exist,
and this act shall be in force from its passage.
