Chap. 91.—An ACT to nmend and re-enact sections 61, 79, SO, 9T and 100 of
unact to incorporate the city of Newport News, in the county of Warwick,
und to provide a charter therefor, as heretofore amended. {Hi B 137)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tions numbers sixty-one, seventy-nine, eighty, ninety-seven and one
hundred, of an act to incorporate the city of Newport News, in the
county of Warwick and to provide a charter therefor, be amended
and re-enacted to read as follows
61, The mayor shall receive such salary as shall be fixed by
the said council, not exceeding two thousand dollars per annum,
and he shall receive no other compensation or emoluments whatever
from the city: and his salary shall not be diminished during his
term of office.
7 The auditor shall receive such salary as shall be prescribed
hy the council, not exceeding two thousand dollars per annum, and
the same shall not be diminished during his term of office. He shall
give bond in a sum of not less than ten thousand dollars in some
guaranty company, approved by the council.
80. City clerk.—There shall be one city clerk, who shall be
elected by the council, who shall hold office for two years, and until
his suecessor be elected and qualified, unless sooner removed from
office by the council. Ile shall receive such salary as shall be fixed
by the said council, not exceeding two thousand dollars per annum.
97. The council shall elect. the citv attorney, who shall hold
oftice for the term now fixed by law, and he shall receive for his ser-
vices such salary as shall be fixed by the council, not to exceed two
thousand dollars.
100. The salary of the city engineer shall be fixed by the coun-
cil not exceeding the sum of three thousand dollars per annum, and
all fees received by him in official capacity shall be paid over to the
city treasurer monthly in the same mamner as is required for paying
in other moneys.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
