Chap. 57.—An ACT to give consent of the State of Virginia to the purchase
or acquisition by the United States of America, of certain real estate in
the city of Portsmouth. [S B 157]
Approved February 16, 1918.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the consent of the State of Virginia is hereby granted to the pur-
chase or acquisition by the United States of America, of all or so
much of the real estate in the city of Portsmouth, bounded on the
north by Henry street, on the east by the Elizabeth river, on the
south by Lincoln street, and on the west by First street, as the gov-
ernment of the United States of America may deem necessary for
the enlargement of the lighthouse depot now maintained by the
United States of America in said city of Portsmouth.
2, During the time that the land hereinbefore mentioned, or
any part thereof, may be held by the United States of America for
the purposes hereinbefore set out, the State of Virginia hereby
cedes to the United States of America exclusive authority as pro-
vided in article one, section eight, sub-division seventeen, of the con-
stitution of the United States of America.
