Chap. 405.—An ACT providing for expenses of the members of the general
assembly in attending the extended session, beginning on March 18,
1918. {H B 452]

Whereas, the present session of the general assembly has com-
pleted its work which has been presented to the governor for his
consideration; and
Whereas, the governor has indicated his wish to make a com-
munication to the general assembly on March eighteenth, nineteen
hundred and eighteen; and
Whereas, it was necessary that the general assembly should re-
turn to take such action upon the recommendations of the governor
as seemed proper; and
Whereas, while no salary can be paid, the people of the State
would not and could not expect the members of the general assembly
to give their time to the public service without compensation and
bear their own expenses besides;
Now, therefore, be it enacted by the general assembly of Vir-
ginia that the auditor of public accounts be and he is hereby author-
ized and directed to issue his warrants upon the treasurer in favor
of each member of the general assembly and the heutenant governor
for fifty dollars each and mileage at the rate of five cents per mile
for every mile traveled, to pay the necessary expenses of the mem-
bers of the general assembly and lieutenant governor upon the ex-
tended session to consider the necessary legislation by which they
were required to return to Richmond.
