Chap. 318.—An ACT appropriating the sum of $43,000.00 for the purchase
of tract of land in Powhatan county, Virginia. {H B 337]
Approved March 16, 1918.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the sum of forty-three thousand dollars, be, and the same is hereby,
appropriated out of the funds not otherwise appropriated, for the
purpose of acquiring the following property, to-wit:
All that certain tract of land in Powhatan county, Virginia, on
James river, about twenty-five miles west of the city of Richmond,
Virginia, known as “Maiden’s Adventure Farm,” containing by
survey made by W. A. Brown on February fifteenth, nineteen hun-
dred and nine, twelve hundred and eight acres, as shown by the plat
recorded with the deed from R. D. Tucker and others conveying the
said land to A. O. Hancock and C. W. Throckmorton, bearing date
of January sixteenth, nineteen hundred and nine, and recorded in
the clerk’s office of Powhatan county in deed book thirty-four, page
one hundred and ninety-six, to which deed and plat reference is here
made for a more accurate description of said property; it being the
same property conveyed to said S. E. McDonough by A. C. Han-
cock and C. W. Throckmorton and their wives by deed dated June
first, nineteen hundred and nine, and recorded in said office in deed
book thirty-four, page two hundred and fifty-three. Provided, how-
ever, that the money shall not be paid until a good and sufficient
deed of general warranty is executed by the owners of the property
and delivered to the governor of Virginia, conveying the said prop-
erty to the State of Virginia, free and clear of all encumbrances, the
title to which shall be passed upon by the attorney-general.
