Chap. 25.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of
Culpeper county, Virginia, to establish and maintain toll gates upon the
severnl macadamized roads tn the several madisterial districts of said
county, fix the rate of toll thereof, collect the same, and use it for the
purpose of the repair and upkeep of said roads, [11 B 47]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Culpeper county, be and it is, hereby author-
ized and empowered. in its discretion. to establish, maintain, operate
and control toll gates upon the several macadamized roads within
the county of Culpeper, to fix the rate of toll, employ toll gate
keepers to collect the same, and fix their compensation. )
2, Said board of supervisors, before proceeding to establish toll
gates upon the said several roads of the county of Culpeper, shall
first. publish in some newspaper, published within the county, notice
of the time of the mecting of such board for two successive weeks,
for the purpose of establishing said toll gates. Said board of super-
visors, Who are hereby charged with the duty of the collection and
handling of the tolls from any such gates that mav be established
by it, shall annually publish in some newspaper published and cir-
culated within the county. an itemized statement. of the amount of
tolls collected at each of said gates, and the operating expenses of
same, showing a net surplus over and above the operating expenses
of said gates. and said fund so collected, shall constitute a separate
special fund for the upkeep and repair of said roads.
8. <All acts or parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby
repealed, provided, however, this act shall not interfere with any
toll gates previously established under an act approved February
fifth, nineteen hundred and sixteen, and an act approved March six-
teenth, nineteen hundred and sixteen.
