Chap. 155.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Botetourt county
to enlarge or build an addition to the vault of the courthouse of said
county, and mrke other improvements to said courthouse and additions
thereto, and arrange plants to furnish heat, light, and water for the
same; and to provide for issuing county warrants on levies for future
years to pay the expenses thereof. rT] (H B 406]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Botetourt county is hereby authorized and
empowered to enlarge, or build an addition to, the vault of the court-
house of the said county, and make such other additions to such
courthouse, changes in its interior, otherwise improve the same, and
provide such plants or equipment for furnishing heat, light and
water therefor, as the said board may deem necessary and proper,
the entire cost of which shall not exceed twenty thousand dollars.
y. ‘That to meet the expense of said improvements, or such of
them as the said board shall have made, the said board of super-
visors is hereby authorized and empowered to issue warrants on the
treasurer of the said county, payable, one-fourth of said exp%nse, or
cost, out of the levies for the year nineteen hundred and cighteen,
one-fourth out of the levies for the year nineteen hundred and nine-
teen, one-fourth out of the levies for the year nineteen hundred and
twenty, and one-fourth out of the levies for the year nineteen hun-
dred and twenty-one, which warrants shall bear interest at a rate
not exceeding six per centum per annum, until paid, and the agere-
gate of all the warrants so issued under this act shall not exceed
twenty thousand dollars, and shall not be sold for less than their
face value. 3
8. The board of supervisors of the said county Shall, in each of
the said years, nineteen hundred:and eighteen, nineteen hundred and
nineteen, nineteen hundred and twenty, and nineteen hundred and
twenty-one, respectively, in laying the general county levy, make a
sufficient levy on the property subject to county levies, to raise suf-
ficient amount to pay off the warrants drawn under this act, pay-
able in said years, respectively, in addition to current expenses of
said county for said years; and out of said levies the said warrants
shall be paid by the treasurer of said county, and shall be credited
to him in his settlement of the general county funds.
4. The crowded condition of the present vault, and the neces-
sity that this work proceed at once, is such that an emergency 1s
hereby declared to exist, and this act shall be in force from its pas-
sage.
