Chap. 139.—An ACT to authorize the city of Norfolk to close the Cove street
canal from the eastern side of Arlington place to the junction of said
Cove street canal with Mahone’s canal, and to close Mahone’s canal from
its said junction with Cove street canal to the eastern side of Lake ave-
nue, in the city of Norfolk. [H B 195]

Whereas, the Cove street canal, in the city of Norfolk, Virginia,
from the eastern side of Arlington place to the junction of said
Cove street canal with Mahone’s canal, and Mahone’s canal with
its junction with the said Cove street canal to the eastern side of
Lake avenue, are no longer necessary for the purposes of naviga-
tion; therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
council of the city of Norfolk is hereby authorized to close the said
Cove street canal from the eastern side of Arlington place to the
junction of the said Cove street canal with Mahone’s canal, and to
close said Mahone’s canal from its junction with the said Cove
street canal to the eastern side of Lake avenue, and all right, title
and interest of the State of Virginia in the said part or parts of
said Cove street canal and Mahone’s canal is hereby vested in the
city of Norfolk.
