CHAP. 129.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 7 of the charter of
the former town, now city, of Hampton, entitled an act to incorpo-
rate the town of Hampton, in Elizabeth City county, Virginia, ap-
roved May 23, 1887, as amended by an act approved March 2, 1914,
in relation to the rate of taxation. (H. B. 198.)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section seven of the charter of the former town, now city, of
Hampton, approved May twenty-third, eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven as amended by an act approved, March second,
nineteen hundred and fourteen, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
Sec. 7. The taxes levied by the council of said city, for all
purposes, shall not exceed the rate of one dollar and fifteen cents
yn the one hundred dollars ($100) of valuation of all property
axable by said city, except as otherwise provided by law; and
10 corporate debt for current expenses of said city shall be con-
racted beyond what may be paid in one year from said levies.
2. Ly reason of the fact that the rate of levy will shortly
e fixed by the council of the said city of Hampton, it is hereby
leclared that an emergency exists and that this act shall be in
orce from its passage.
