Chap. 49.—An ACT to authorize the town council of the town of Waynesboro
to call a special election of the qualified voters of said town, to determine
whether or not all live stock shall be prohibited from running at large
within the corporate limits of the town of Waynesboro, Virginia.

Whereas, the charter of the town of Waynesboro, in Augusta county,
as set forth in the acts of assembly, eighteen ninety-five and ninety-six, in
chapter five hundred and seventy-seven, provides in section twelve of said
charter that “the council of said town shall have the power to prohibit all
animals except milk cows from running at large and beyond their owners’
premises,” and
Whereas, by reason of the growth of said town and the building up of
its streets it is desired to prohibit all live stock from running at large
in the streets and alleys of said town of Waynesboro; therefore,
Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the town
council of the town of Waynesboro shall have the power to call an election
of the qualified voters of said town to determine whether or not all live
stock shall be prohibited from running at large on the streets and alleys
of said town.
2. Such election shall be held at any time after ten days after
written notice thereof posted in ten prominent places throughout the
town.
3. The term “qualified voters” in this act shall be construed to
mean all voters qualified to vote in the November elections next succeed-
ing the date of the said election under this act.
4. The town council shall appoint three qualified voters of the said
town who shall act as judges for the said special election, and two quali-
fied voters who shall act as clerks of said election, whose duties and
responsibilities shall be such as are prescribed by the laws of Virginia for
judges and clerks of elections. ,
5. The town council shall have authority to pass ordinances and
provide regulations in pursuance to the results of said election.
6. This act shall not have the effect to abrograte the authority con-
ferred on the tewn council of the said town of Waynesboro by section
twelve of its @arter, with regard to other live stock in the town of
Waynesboro. , ___ -
