Chap. 35.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 45 of an act entitled an
act to provide a charter for the town of Lexington, approved April 28,
1874. ; (H. B. 26.)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section forty-five of an act entitled an act to provide a charter fox.
the town of Lexington, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
Sec. 45. The town of Lexington shall constitute a separate
school district, and the mayor and council shall levy a sufficient tax
for the purpose of supporting the public school in said town. The
said town shall have charge of all the streets and roads within the
corporate limits, and of the roads leading into the town for one
mile beyond the corporate limits as follows: The road known as
the Old Plank road; from the corporate limits at the bridge over
North river, thence for one mile in the direction of Fairfield; the
road leading to Buena Vista, from the corporate limits by Col Alto.
for one mile; the road known as the Old Plank road, from the cor-
porate limits in the direction of the Natural bridge, for one mile;
the road known as the Old Covington pike, from the corporation
limits, thence in the direction of Collierstown, passing the town
reservoir, for one mile, and also the road leading to Kerr’s creek,
beginning at the intersection with the Covington pike at the late
residence of A. T. Barclay, thence by the lime kiln in the direction
of Kerr’s creek, for a distance of one mile to be measured from the
corporate limits at Wood’s creek, and the mayor and council of the
town shall levy a sufficient tax to keep the same in order. The said
town, and the taxable persons and property therein. shall be exempt
from any and all county and district taxes levied for school and
road purposes.
