Chap. 315.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 3057 of the Code of Vir
ginia, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved December 26, 1903,
and as further amended and re-enacted by an act approved March 9, 1906, ~
and as further amended and re-enacted by an act approved February 29,
1908, and as further amended and re-enacted by an act approved March
14, 1908, and also to amend and re-enact section 3059 of the Code of Vir.
ginia, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved December 26, 1903,
entitled an act to repeal sections 3063, 3065, 3066, 3067, of the Code of i;
Virginia, and to amend and re-enact sections 3056, 3057, 3058, 3059, 3060,
and 3062 of the Code, as heretofore amended, and as further amended .
by an act approved February 23, 1904, and as further amended by an
act aprroved March 15. 1904. and as further amended by an act approved
March 14, 1906, as to the times for holding regular terms of the courts
in the several circuits. and giving jurisdiction to courts during recess, «
whether adjourned for the purnose of opening or holding another term, -:,
or part or portion there or otherwise, which the judges of the circuit
courts now have in vacation. and as further amended and re-enacted by
an act apnroved March 14. 190. and as further amended by an act «|;
approved February 26. 1910, and as amended and re-enacted by an act %

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section three thousand and fifty-seven of the Code of Vir-
ginia, as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled an act to
amend and re-enact section three thousand and fifty-seven of the
Code of Virginia, approved December twenty-sixth, nineteen hun-
dred and three, and as further amended by an act approved March
ninth, nineteen hundred and six, and as further amended and re
enacted by an act approved February twenty-ninth, nineteen hun-
dred and eight, and as further amended and re-enacted by an act
approved March fourteenth, nineteen hundred and eight, and sec-
tion three thousand and fifty-nine of the Code of Virginia, as
amended by an act approved December twenty-sixth, nineteen hun-
dred and three, entitled an act to repeal sections three thousand and
sixty-three, three thousand and sixty-five, three thousand and sixty-
six and three thousand and sixty-seven of the Code of Virginia, and
to amend and re-enact sections three thousand and fifty-six, three
thousand and fifty-seven, three thousand and fifty-eight, three thou-
sand and fifty-nine, three thousand and sixty, and three thousand
and sixty-two of the Code, as heretofore amended, and as further
amended by an act approved February twenty-third, nineteen hun-
dred and four, and as further amended by an act approved March
fifteenth, nineteen hundred and four, and as further amended by an
act approved March fourteenth, nineteen hundred and six, and
as further amended by an act approved March fourteenth, nineteen
hundred and eight, and as further amended by an act approved
February twenty-six, nineteen hundred and ten, and as amended
and re-enacted by an act approved March fourth, nineteen hundred
and twelve, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 3057. Judicial circuits: The State shall be divided into
thirty-one judicial circuits as follows:
Sub-section 1. The county of Norfolk shall constitute the first
circuit. :
Sub-section 2. The counties of Nansemond, Southampton, city
of Suffolk and the city of Norfolk shall constitute the second circuit.
Sub-section 3. The ccunties of Prince George, Surry, Sussex
Greensville and Brunswick shall constitute the third circuit.
Sub-section 4. The counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Notto-
way, Amelia, Powhatan and the city of Petersburg shall constitute
the fourth circuit.
Sub-section 5. The counties of Prince Edward, Cumberland,
Appomattox, Charlotte and Buckingham shall constitute the fifth
circuit.
Sub-section 6. The counties of Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Hal-
ifax, Campbell, and the city of Lynchburg shall constitute the sixth
circuit.
Sub-section 7. The counties of Pittsylvania, Henry, Patrick,
and the city of Danville shall constitute the seventh circuit.
Sub-section 8. The counties of Madison, Greene and Albemarle
shall constitute the eighth circuit.
Sub-section 9. The counties of Culpeper, Orange, Louisa and
Goochland shall constitute the ninth circuit.
Sub-section 10. The county of Henrico and the city of Rich-
mond shall constitute the tenth circuit.
Sub-section 11. The county of Elizabeth City and the city of
Newport News shall constitute the eleventh circuit.
Sub-section 12. The counties of Richmond, Northumberland,
Westmoreland, Lancaster and Essex shall constitute the twelfth
circuit.
Sub-section 13. The counties of Gloucester, Mathews, King and
Queen, King William and Middlesex shall constitute the thirteenth
circuit.
Sub-section 14. The counties of New Kent, Charles City, York,
Warwick, James City, and the city of Williamsburg shall cunsti-
tute the fourteenth circuit.
Sub-section 15. The counties of King George, Stafford, Spot-
sylvania, Caroline and Hanover shall constitute the fifteenth circuit.
Sub-section 16. The counties of Prince William, Fairfax and
Alexandria, and the city of Alexandria shall constitute the sixteenth
-eircuit.
Sub-section 17. The counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren and
Shenandoah shall constitute the seventeenth circuit.
Sub-section 18. The counties of Augusta, Highland and Rock-
bridge shall constitute the eighteenth circuit.
Sub-section 19. The counties of Bath, Alleghany, Craig and
Botetourt, and the city of Clifton Forge shall constitute the nine-
teenth circuit.
Sub-section 20. The counties of Roanoke, Montgomery, Floyd,
and the city of Roanoke shall constitute the twentieth circuit.
Sub-section 21. The counties of Pulaski, Carroll, Wythe and —
Grayson shall constitute the twenty-first circuit.
Sub-section 22. The counties of Bland, Tazewell and Giles shall
constitute the twenty-second circuit. .
Sub-section 23. The counties of Washington, Smyth and Scott
shall constitute the twenty-third circuit.
Sub-section 24. The counties of Lee and Wise shall constitute
the twenty-fourth circuit. —
Sub-section 25. The counties of Rockingham and Page shall
constitute the twenty-fifth circuit.
Sub-section 26. The counties of Rappahannock, Fauquier and
Loudoun shall constitute the twenty-six judicial circuit.
Sub-section 27. The counties of Buchanan, Russell and Dick-
inson shall constitute the twenty-seventh circuit.
Sub-section 28. The counties of Isle of Wight and Princess
Anne and the city of Portsmouth shall constitute the twenty-eighth
circuit.
Sub-section 29. The counties of Amherst, Nelson and Fluvanna
shall constitute the twenty-ninth circuit.
Sub-section 30. The counties of Bedford and Franklin shall
constitute the thirtieth circuit.
__ Sub-section 31. The counties of Accomac and Northampton
shall constitute the thirty-first circuit.
Sec. 3059. The commencement and number of their terms.—
Unless otherwise herein provided, there shall be held in each of the
cities of the Commonwealth two terms of the circuit court of such
“ city in each year, and in each of the counties there shall be held bi-
monthly terms of the circuit court of such county, four of which
. terms in those counties in which more than four terms are provided,
‘to be designated by the judge thereof, shall be known as quarterly
terms, at which all civil cases for which juries may be required shall
be tried, unless the judge of any circuit shall enter of record that
juries shall be summoned to other than the quarterly terms for the
trial of civil cases. At any of the said terms all criminal and
chancery causes shall be tried, but the judge of the court may, in
any county in which more than five terms are provided, by an order
- to be entered on the common law order book of said court, omit one
-of the terms thereof during each year, unless the public business
shall require that all of the said terms be held for the proper trans-
action of business.
Until otherwise provided by law, the time for holding the said
“terms in the said counties and cities shall be as follows:
Provided, that any term of a circuit court for any of the coun-
‘tes or cities of the circuit may be continued by the judge thereof
_ by adjournment until after the beginning of the term of the court
fer any other county or city of such circuit. And when such ad-
‘journment is until after the beginning of a term of the court for
-another county, the judge of said court shall have the same power
during said recess to perform any duty and to transact any busi-
ness which is authorized by law to be done by judges of the circuit
court in vacation; but no term of the court shall be so continued
beyond the day fixed by law for the beginning of the next regular
term of the court for the county or city of the circuit whose term
is so extended.
First Circuit.
