Chap. 267.—An ACT to submit to the qualified electors of the city of Char-
lottesville, as to the abolition of the cor-oration cou t of said city, as
provided in section 98 of the Constitution of Virginia. (H. B. 494.)

Whereas. under section ninety-eight of the Constitution of Vir-
ginia, Charlcttesville is reckoned as a second class city, and there
now exists a corporation ccurt in said city; and,
Whereas, permissicn is given under said section for cities of sec-
ond class to abolish the corporation court; and,
Whereas, it is deemed expedient to submit to the qualified voters
of said city the privilege to have them express their wishes at an
election to be had for the purpose; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
when fifty qualified electors of Charlottesville shall petition the
judge of the circuit ccurt of Albemarle, asking for an election to
determine on the aboliticn of the corporation court of. Charlottes-
ville, then it shall be the duty of the judge of the circuit court of
* Charlottesville to order an election to be held, submitting to the
- qualified electors of Charlcttesville, on a certain day to be fixed by
+ the said judge, the questicn “For abolishing the corporation court
, of Charlottesville,” “Against abolishing the corporation court of
Charlottesville,” after giving notice of said election for not less than
thirty days, on the conditicns to be named in said order, how the
notice shall be given for said election.
2. The election shall not be held before the first day of Sep-
_ tember, nineteen hundred and fourteen. Said election shall be held,
conducted, the returns thereof canvassed and certified, or contested
according to the provisions of chapter ten of the Code of Virginia,
nineteen hundred and four, as far as applicable.
3. In the event that a majority of the qualified electors should
vote for the abolition of the corporation court, then the corporation
court shall cease to exist on the first day of January, nineteen hun-
dred and fifteen, and as provided in section ninety-eight (98) of
the Constitution of Virginia, the city of Charlottesville shall there-
upon come in every respect within the jurisdiction of the circuit
court of Albemarle, and the records of the corporation court shall
thereupon become a part of the records of the circuit court of Al-
bemarle, and be transferred, stand and remain in said circuit court.
