Chap. 257.—An ACT for the relief of Richard Snow, an o'd Confederate sol-
dier, and to compensate him for services rendered in purging the pen-
sion rolls of Greene county, Virginia, of persons illegally enrolled and
drawing pensions from the State. ; (H. B. 458.)

Whereas, through the active assistance of Richard Snow, an old
and worthy confederate soldier of Greene county, the State of Vir-
ginia was able to purge its pension rolls of the names of certain
persons who were not entitled to be enrolled thereon, whereby the
State has been saved the expenditure of a very considerable sum of
money in illegal pensions; and,
Whereas, the said Richard Snow is justly entitled to some com-
pensation for the services which he had rendered to the State at
considerable expense to himself, in time. labor and money, and is
now over seventy-four vears of age, and in destitute circumstances.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the sum of fifty dollars is hereby appropriated to be paid as com-
pensation to the said Richard Snow for his services; said sum to be
paid out of funds of the State now, or hereafter to be appropriated
for the payment of pensions to confederate soldiers. And the
auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized and directed to draw
his warrant on the treasurer of Virginia in favor of said Richard
Snow for said sum of fifty dollars; and the treasurer of Virginia
is hereby authorized and directed to honor said draft for said
amount to be paid out of the funds aforesaid..
