Chap. 202.—An ACT to amend an act approved February 17, 1890, entitle:
an act to incorporate the city of Danville by amending and re-enacting
section 30, under chapter 6, for the purpose of prescribing the manner
of election of a city constable, a collector of city taxes, a city attorney,
and empowering the city council to prescribe the duties of the aforesaii
officers, fix their salaries or compensation, and also permit the city cour-
cil to appoint a clerk of the market, inspector of buildings, and such
other employees as it may deem necessary and proper, and to define
their term of office, powers, dutics and compensation, and providing for
bonds for said officers, and the abolishment of any office appointive by
the city council for good cause. CH. B. 211.)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
an act approved February seventeenth, eighteen hundred and
ninety, entitled an act to incorporate the city of Danville, be
amended by amending and re-enacting section thirty, under
chapter six, so as to read as follows:
Chapter 6, Sec. 30. There shall be elected by the qualified
voters of the city of Danville, on the Tuesday after the first
Monday in November, nineteen hundred and fifteen, and every
four years thereafter, a city constable, a collector of city taxes, and
a city attorney, whose respective terms of office shall begin on the
first day of January succeeding their election and continue for four
years thereafter, and the city council shall have power to prescribe
their respective powers and duties, and to fix their salaries or
compensation, but said salaries or compensation shall not be
increased or diminished during the term of any incumbent of any
office heretofore mentioned in this section. Any person elected
to any office heretofore mentioned in this section shall, before
entering upon his duties as such, give a bond with good security
in such amount and penalty as the city council may prescribe.
The election of any and all of the officers hereinbefore
mentioned in this section shall be held in the same manner and
by the same officers who conduct general elections in said city.
Any of the officers hereinbefore mentioned may have assistants
and clerks as the council may approve.
The council may also appoint a clerk of the market, inspector
of buildings, and such other employees as it may deem necessary
and proper, and may define their term of office, powers, duties.
and compensation: any office which the council has the power
to create under this section, it may, at any time, for good cause.
abolish, whether the term of office of the incumbent has expired or
not; from any employee appointed by the council, as hereinbefore
provided, it may take bond with good security in such penalty
and with such conditions as it may deem proper.
2. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are
hereby appealed.
