Chap. 13.—An ACT to amend section 1 of an act to provide for State
money aid in addition to convict labor for the improvement of public
roads, approved February 25, 1908, as amended February 25, 1910.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an act entitled an act to provide for State money aid
in addition to convict labor for the improvement of public roads,
approved February twenty-fifth, nineteen hundred and eight, as
amertded February twenty-fifth, nineteen hundred and ten, be
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 1.. Whenever the local road authorities of any county pro-
pose to improve permanen;'.¥ny main traveled public road therein
or any part thereof; or wh, Ger the local road authorities of any
county in which such main trateled roads have already been perma-
nently improved, propose:to improve permanently any public road,
or part thereof, which is tributary to any such main traveled road.
they may make application to the State highway commissioner for
State aid; provided, however, that for the improvement of any
such tributary road the State highway commissioner is authorized
to agree with the local road authorities upon some adequate but
less elaborate and expensive plan of construction than is prescribed
for the permanent improvement of said main traveled roads under
the provisions of this act; and provided further, that in order to
participate in the distribution of State money aid for any year,
the county authorities shall make initial application therefor prior
to the first day of January of that year.
