Chap. 119.—An ACT to amend an act appioved February 17, 1890, entitled an
act to incorporate the city of Danviiue, by adaing thereco an inaependent
section to be known as section 1l-a, under chapter 6, for the purpose of
creating the office of superintendent of the water, gas and electric de-
partments of the city of Danville, and prescribing the manner in whicu
said office ‘shall be filled. (H. B. 111.)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
an act approved February seventeenth, eighteen hundred and ninety,
entitled an act to incorporate the city of Danville, be amended
and re-enacted by adding thereto an independent section to be
known as section eleven-a, under chapter six, to read as follows:
Chapter 6, Sec. 11-a. The office of superintendent of the water,
gas and electric departments of the city of Danville is hereby created
for the city of Danville, and the person elected to fill said office
shall have general supervision over, and charge of such depart-
ments of said city under the direction of the city council, and, shall
perform such other services relative to such departments as the
city council may, by ordinance or resolution, from time to time
prescribe. The salary of any person elected to said office shall be
fixed by the city council, but shall not be increased or diminished
during the term of any incumbent thereof. Any person elected
to such office shall, before entering upon his duties as such, give a
bond with good security in such amount and penalty and with
such conditions as the city council may prescribe.
In said city there shall be elected by the qualified voters thereof
on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, nineteen hun-
dred and fourteen, and every two years thereafter, a superintendent
of the water, gas and electric departments of the said city, whose
term of office shall begin on the first day of January succeeding his
election, and continue for two years thereafter. Said election shall
be held in the same manner and by the same officers conducting
the general or any other election held at the time aforesaid.
2. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are hereby
repealed.
