Chap. 111.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 5 of an act approved
February 5, 1900, entitled an act to incorporate the town of Virgilina,
in the county of Halifax. (H. B. 123.)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section five of the act approved February fifth, nineteen hundred,
entitled an act to incorporate the town of Virgilina, in the county
cf Halifax, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 5. The council may provide by by-laws and ordinances
for the appointment of a sergeant, clerk, assessor, treasurer, police-
men and such other officers and agents for the proper conduct and
business of the town as they may deem necessary, and by by-laws
and ordinances prescribe the terms of all such officers and agents,
their duties and compensation, and require and take from them
such bonds, with good security, and in such penalty, as they may
deem proper, with condition for the faithful discharge of the duties
of their offices.
Such appointments may be made at such time or times as may
be prescribed by said by-laws and ordinances. Any and all such
officers so appointed shall be removable in the manner, and for the
cause prescribed in such by-laws and ordinances. The same person
may, in the discretion of the council, be appointed to and hold at
the same time more than one of the said offices or positions. The
sergeant of said town shall, in addition to the duties that may be
prescribed by the council, have the same powers and discharge
the same duties as constables within the corporate limits thereof
and to the distance of two miles beyond the same.
