Chap. 76.—An ACT to prohibit any person or persons without authority
from hypnotizing or mesmerizing or attempting to hypnotize or mes-
merize any persons or persons and to prohibit any person or persons
from consenting to be hypnotized or mesmerized or attempting to be
hypnotized or mesmerized.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to hypnotize or
mesmerize or attempt to hypnotize or mesmerize any other per-
son or persons; or for any person or persons to attempt or
consent to be hypnotized or mesmerized except as hereinafter
provided, to-wit:
The right to practice hypnotism or mesmerism shall be
limited to regularly practicing physicians.
If any person or persons shall hypnotize or mesmerize or
attempt to hypnotize or mesmerize any person or persons, or
if any person attempt or consent to be hypnotized or mesmerized,
except in accordance with the provisions of this act, they shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and fined not less than
twenty dollars, or more than one hundred dollars, or shall be
sentenced to not less than sixty days nor more than one year in
jail, or both, in the discretion of the court trying the case.
