CHAP. 276.—An ACT regulating the sale of seed cotton and prohibiting
the sale thereof at night.
Approved March 14, 1912.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be unlawful for any person, persons or corporations to
sell seed cotton in this State after the hour daylight in the even-
ing and before daylight in the morning. It shall be unlawful
for any person, persons or corporations to store seed cotton be-
tween the hours of daylight in the evening and daylight in the
morning at place of sale, for the purpose of selling at a future
ime.
2. Any person, persons or corporations buying seed cotton
after the hour of daylight in the evening or before daylight in
the morning, or allow same to be stored at his place for future
sale, shall be subject to the same punishment as the seller under
this act; provided, however, that this act shall not apply to stor-
ing cotton in public service gin houses for the purpose of ginning.
3. The purchaser shall keep a strict account of all seed cotton
purchased by them, the name of seller, quantity sold and date
of sale, and this account shall be kept for the inspection of any
person or persons having a pecuniary interest therein at any
time.
4. Any person, persons or corporations, either buyer or seller,
violating this law shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be
fined upon conviction, not less than ten dollars nor more than one
hundred dollars for each offense.
