CHAP. 275.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 13 and 16 of an act
approved March 12, 1904, entitled an act to incorporate and provide
a charter for the town of Damascus, Virginia.
Approved March 14, 1912.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections thirteen and sixteen of an act approved March twelfth,
nineteen hundred and four, entitled an act to incorporate and
provide a charter for the town of Damascus, Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as foilows:
§13. The council shall, as soon after September first, nine-
teen hundred and twelve, as may be convenient, and each suc-
ceeding council shall, at the beginning of the term of office of its
members, or as soon thereafter as may be convenient, elect a
town treasurer. He shall qualify and give bond before the
council, with surety approved by it in a penalty to be determined
by the council. Any vacancy in this office shall be filled by the
council.
The said town treasurer shall collect and receive all monev
belonging to the town, and he shall perform such other duties
as are prescribed by the council. He shall keep his office in
some convenient place in the town. He shall keep his books and
accounts in such manner as the town council may prescribe, and
such books and accounts shall always be subject to the inspection
of the mayor, recorder, or any member of the town ccuncil, or
any committee or committees of the council. He shall receive for
his services such compensation as the town council may from
time to time allow.
§16. The council shall, as soon after September first, nineteen
hundred and twelve, as may be convenient, and each succeeding
council shall, at the beginning of the term of office of its mem-
bers, or as soon thereafter as may be convenient, elect a town
sergeant, who shall be ex-officio commissioner of the revenue.
He shall qualify and give bond before the council, with surety in
such amount as the council may determine. Any vacancy in this
oftice shall be filled by the council.
