CHAP. 249.—An ACT to authorize and direct work on the public roads of
Goochland County by convicts at the State farm now located in Gooch-
land county.
Approved March 14, 1912.
Whereas, the State farm now located in Goochland county,
Virginia, upon the highway between Richmond and Charlottes-
ville, Virginia, is well equipped to do road work, having a stone
quarry on said farm adjacent to the railroad tracks of the Chesa-
peake and Ohio railway company; and, whereas, the State is in-
terested in said highway; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of State penitentiary, and those under their directions,
are hereby fully authorized and directed to put in order not
more than ten miles of the said public road in said county, or any
other county in which the State farm may be located, and for the
accomplishment of said purpose the said board is hereby author-
ized to use the convict labor at the State penitentiary farm, and
said superintendent of the said State farm shall provide for,
house and guard the said convicts, when so occupied in said work,
as in the case of other work by convicts at the State farm upon
like conditions in all other respects, and that in the performance
of said work the superintendent of State farm shall co-operate
as fully as possible with the county authorities and shall have
the advice and direction of State highway commissioner, if deem-
ed necessary by the said board of the State penitentiary.
