Chap. 74.—An ACT to authorize the erection of a bronze statue of Governor Wil-
liam Smith on the capitol square, in the city of Richmond.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That authority
and permission are hereby given to Miss Mary Amelia Smith, Colonel
Thomas Smith, and such others as may be associated with them, under
the name of and known as the Governor William Smith Memorial As-
sociation, to erect a bronze statue of Governor William Smith upon the
capitol square, in the city of Richmond, at a spot to be designated by
the governor of the Commonwealth and the register of the land office,
who are hereby authorized to act in such capacity, co-operating with said
association: provided, the Commonwealth shall not be put to any ex-
pense in connection with the erection of such statue.
