Chap. 255.— An ACT for the protection of pheasants and other game birds im-
ported for propagation.
Approved March 15, 1904.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That prior to
January one, nineteen hundred and nine, it shall be unlawful for any
person or persons in this State to kill, or to capture, have in possession,
buy, sell, or offer for sale, except for purposes of propagation, any Mon-
golian or English pheasants,, or to take or destroy the eggs of any of said
irds.
%. The possession of any of the birds protected by section one, except
for purposes of propagation, shall be prima facie evidence of the violation
of this act.
3. Any person violating any of the provisions of this act shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be fined not less than five dollars nor
more than fifty dollars, or imprisoned not more than thirty days, or may
be both fined and imprisoned at the discretion of the justice or jury try-
ing the case.
4. This act shall be in force from and after ninety days after the ad-
journment of this session of the general assembly.
